Remember that on the Amiga two of the best known programs are dual pain filemanagers (DiskMaster2 and Directory-Opus). It should be noted that coming from a background that includes a lot of Amiga usage, the dual pain filemanagers like Midnight Commander mc are more familiar to me. It is the easier way to use any Unix like OS with a desktop environment for me. Most of the time I'm in the browser, so everything else is dead weight. didn't bother with a file manager, made a cd & ls function instead, used nano for editing. The last i did was an i3-wm, firefox & xterm were the main gui apps. Yeah, I've done a few old school setups, just for fun. Make sure that apt-get is still able to use the internet hosted Buster repos.Get online to get any extra information needed to add extras I want.Plug in my Ethernet to WiFi bridge and reboot.Do the needed configuration after installing everything.Using the copy on the USB Thumb drive install the packages I want with apt-get install. Configure apt-get to use the copy of the repo on the USB drive to install from.Remove the unwanted packages that come pre-installed.Dissable the services that allow for remote login.Expand the filesystem to fill the SD card.Boot my Raspberry Pi 1B+ without an internet connection.Put the SD card in my RPi, and plug in the USB Thumb drive. On a different computer and OS: Use dd to write the downloaded image of Raspberry Pi OS Buster lite to an SD card.On a different computer and OS: Download a copy of the Raspbian (Raspberry Pi OS) Buster package repo to an ext2 formated USB drive, using wget to perform the download. In case my initial post was not clear (as seems to be based on replies so far): Though if you know of a nicer set of basic tools that has an equally low set f dependancies I am very interested. x11-utils has the useful tools:Īs well as a few tools that are useful when writing and testing X Windowing System programs and Window Managers. It should also be noted that there is the sister package (that I also intend when mentioning x11-apps) knwon as x11-utils. Though the rest of the programs in x11-apps are mostly just toys. Though the complete list of useful applications in x11-apps is:Īnd beyond X the only dependancy of any is the xbitmaps package (for some of the bitmap graphics used by a few of these). That is true, though they have no dependancies beyond X. X11-apps = the only useful things you'll get is xedit(text editor), xterm(terminal), xcalc(calculator) and they'll all be ugly with tiny fonts.
